One of the nicest surprises at the Nintendo E3 press briefing earlier today was the announcement that the company is working on a squel to Wii Sports, called Wii Sports Resort. This is great news to us, since we have probably spent more time playing the original title than perhaps any other game for the Wii. At the very least, Wii sports showed the world what could be done with motion controls, as well as the importance of keeping the wiimote strap attached at all times.
Now we have at least three new reasons to put a wiimote-shaped hole in our brand new plasma TV sets. Wii Resorts will include jet skiing, frisbee, and fencing. We are sure that there are more activities planned, but the three "sports" that were shown off at the briefing today looked great.
In addition to the new activities, the game will ship with a controller add-on, called Wii Motion Plus. This device plugs into the bottom of the regular wiimote and adds greater motion sensitivity (possibly for new movements like throwing a frisbee). It was not immediately clear from the briefing what the peripheral brings to gameplay, so we hope to learn more about it in the coming days.
In the meantime, here are some official screenshots of Wii Sports Resort:
