The first episode in Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People will arrive on WiiWare this Monday, August 11. The episode, titled "Homestar Ruiner" will release simultaneously in Europe and North America. So far there is no release planned for Japan, where Strong Bad’s charms have not yet managed to catch on (give him time).
Everyone should recognize Strong Bad from his weekly email-checking, pop-culture referencing, Homestar-dissing cartoon show. If you haven’t yet discovered the world’s greatest use of flash animation, you owe it to yourself to check out the site right now. Just make sure you have a few days to spare, because Homestar Runner is the leading cause of internet addiction among 18-30 year-olds.
Telltale, which is most widely known for its work on the Sam and Max games, loves episodic content. Fitting somewhere between a traditional video game and a weekly television show, their episodic formula seems like a good fit for Strong Bad and friends. Their other Wii project, Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventure, will follow a similar release schedule.
In the season premiere, Strong Bad's plans to beat the snot out of his rival Homestar Runner backfire, and he ends up with an unwanted houseguest cramping his style. Now he needs to get life back to normal, by any means possible. Point-and-click adventure gameplay progresses the story, with side quests, mini games, achievements, and an "extended play" sandbox mode that unlocks after the story is completed rounding out the game experience.
After the launch of “Homestar Ruiner,” new episodes in the game will come out every month for the PC and Wii.
The Wii version will run 1000 points per episode. Downloadable versions of each Strong Bad episode will also be available for the PC exclusively from Telltale's website, with preorders starting today. Episodes can be purchased individually for $8.95 or as part of a five-episode subscription for $34.95. As with Telltale's popular Sam & Max series, customers who purchase the full series from Telltale will later be eligible to get a disc version for the cost of shipping and handling.
