DVD-compatible Wii coming to Japan

Nintendo has confirmed that they will be releasing an enhanced Wii capable of playing DVDs in Japan some time next year. "There are currently plans to release a version of Wii in Japan featuring DVD playback," said a Nintendo spokesperson. "There are currently no plans to bring this model to Europe or the US." It remains unknown why this model will be exclusive in Japan, although Nintendo had previously decided against including DVD playback, since standalone DVD players are widely available for little money.
