Any followers of Professional Golf, specifically the PGA Tour, are quite familiar with the 17th hole of the TPC Sawgrass, home of the Players Championship. The island green has humbled many a tour pro and claims dozens of balls each year during this tournament. But what about the digital linksters, is this course as intimidating as the real thing?
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 for the Wii comes with 18 championship courses, reproduced in painstaking detail, including the TPC Sawgrass layout, which means you can take your own shot at the famous island hole.
Last weekend while watching the actual golfers tour Sawgrass at the actual Players Championship, I took the opportunity to play a 2 rounds on the digital Sawgrass, and its reproduction of the course is amazing.
While the Wii does not have the horsepower of the PS3 or Xbox 360, the rendering of the course is still excellent. While switching back and forth between the television coverage and the Wii, it was clear I was playing the same course. And through the use of the Wiimote, I felt like I was battling the tough course just as Phil Mickelson and company were doing on the TV.
And about the 17th, I got through unscathed once, but dunked two in the lake my second time through, so the digital version of this difficult hole got me as well as the real pros!
