Mario Kart Wii Review!

Ladies and Gentlemen, get ready to start your engines for the long awaited Mario Kart Wii has arrived. Released in a few months ago, GameFlavor has taken the time and the energy to thoroughly play the game and bring you gamers the inside scoop of gameplay, features, and unlockables of the game.

The game provides a total number of 24 characters. However, the player is only given 12 to choose from at the start of the game. As the player continues to play through the game (such as through the Grand Prix and Time Trials) more characters will be unlocked, such as Diddy Kong, Funky Kong, Dry Bones, King Boo, and Rosalina to name a few. You can also unlock your very own Mii and race with it! Each character has their own statistics and their weight class plays a role in the way they race, for instance the baby characters are lighter while Bowser and Wario are heavier. It is up to the player to decide which character fits his or her own style.

Not only characters can be unlocked, but also vehicles. Just what kind of vehicles you ask? You’ll soon find out.

The one player mode resembles that of the N64 version and contains the three divisions of difficulty starting from easy to hard in the grand prix: 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc. However, this Mario kart makes each division challenging than the rest. This time each division has a certain vehicle that must be driven. In the 50cc, the player can only choose to ride the karts while in the 100cc, the player must only ride bikes. Yes, BIKES! As in, MOTORCYCLE bikes. And you guessed it, the 150cc division gives the player the option to choose between a kart and a bike as well. So as the player goes on, more vehicles can be unlocked, such as faster karts and even faster bikes. Also, the player can also choose a style of racing: automatic or manual. If the player chooses the automatic transmission, it would be like regular racing. However, with the manual transmission, the player can drift with the kart or bike and even get a little mini-boost after the drift which changes the style of racing as well as the way the player controls his or her player.

The stages are mixed in this game. Some Cups contain new stages while other cups contain the retro stages from previous Mario kart games, such those from the DS, Gamecube, and N64 systems. The player starts out with 4 cups to choose from and unlocks the other 4 cups as he or she completes each cup. The stages are not only fun but challenging as well and each is designed to fit the gamer’s style of racing, such as using automatic or manual. At the end of every up, the player gets a ranking with 3 stars being the highest. The higher the rank the player gets, the more chances he or she has at unlocking something from the game, such as a new character or a new vehicle.

The multiplayer also has the same features as it did with the previous versions of Mario kart, such as VS racing and battle modes. However, this time players can battle in teams and choose to be either the red team or blue team or they can go against each other in a 4 player mayhem with the computers on their sides. The only thing that might let some players down is the online play. Despite it being only limited to 2 players, it still delivers enough excitement and enjoyment to the game. Also, the player can gain points during online play that shows their online rank!
